Student Learning and Engagement (SLE) focuses on creating a community of students, researchers and community members that is welcoming and inclusive of all learning styles and experiences. We do this by being antiracist and prioritizing the needs of students, staff and faculty from underrepresented groups.
SLE creates interactive learning experiences and curricular instruction programming to embed critical literacies and research skills across campus. We also leverage campus and community partnerships to enhance support of first generation and historically underserved students.
We do this through:
- Offering consultations and instruction in multiple formats
- Designing and facilitating tutorials, trainings, and certifications
- Developing instructional resources for instructors across campus
- Creating interactive learning experiences for students of all backgrounds, levels, and abilities
- Campus outreach and partnerships

Strategies for Teaching and Research
Our mission is twofold: we empower upper-division undergraduate and graduate students with information literacy support throughout their academic and professional journeys, and collaborate with library staff in transforming content into engaging online instruction. By advancing innovative instructional design practices and eLearning practices, we extend the impact of UA Libraries' teaching and partnerships across the University. Recognizing the importance of a seamless student learning cycle, we provide a framework that integrates course-embedded research instruction, instructional design initiatives, and co-curricular programming. Our approach ensures UA Libraries' teaching and services aligns with campus needs and fosters academic success.

Reference, Instruction, and Student Engagement (RISE)
Our mission is to empower early career undergraduate students with foundational information literacy skills and research support throughout their first years as undergraduate students. Recognizing the importance of ensuring a seamless student learning cycle from early career to upper undergraduate studies, we develop and integrate course-embedded instruction, create and support co-curricular programming, and provide reference services that align with curricular needs and foster student success and retention.
