Typescript drafts and galley proofs of five works mainly concerned with the late nineteenth century history of the American West. Some contain Bailey's holograph edits; one, Grandpa was a Polygamist, is signed. Two are novels about the Great Basin Indians. The Claws of the Hawk: the Incredible Life of Wahker the Ute, focuses on events in the life of the leader Walkara. Ghost Dance Messiah: the Jack Wilson Story is about the Paiute prophet Wovoka, who originated a Ghost dance phenomenon of the late 1880s. The other three drafts concern Mormon life and history. The Armies of God: a Study of the Military Aspects of Mormonism is a chronicle of events from the 1830s to the 1890s. For Time and All Eternity is a novel about the Mormon polygamy crusade of the 1880s. Bailey relates stories from his own childhood in Grandpa was a Polygamist, which is a tribute to his grandfather, the teacher Joseph Barlow Forbes.
American author and founder of the Westernlore Press, in 1941.
