Holograph manuscript consists of a journal of a railway trip through New Mexico, Arizona, and, chiefly, northern Mexico in 1883.
William Edgar Blake was born in Morning Sun, Ohio on June 27, 1844. Blake and his family moved to Iowa in 1845. He attended Monmouth College in Illinois, and went on to study law at Iowa State University earning his law degree in 1869. Blake was also a Civil War veteran serving with the Company C, First Iowa cavalry.
In 1869 Blake and his wife Sarah Lucretia Hurd, moved to Burlington, Iowa where he practiced law until his death in 1915.
