Historical background

Hurdaide was the Mexican-born captain of the presidio of San Felipe from 1598 to 1626, and was in charge of the extension of Spanish and Christian rule in Sinaloa and Sonora. He was Alcalde Mayor de Sinaloa, circa 1600 to 1626.
