Udall Foundation honored as 2018 Library Legend
On November 8, we honored the Udall Foundation as our 2018 Library Legend. The award honors members of the Tucson community who have made significant contributions related to the library's role in providing access to scholarship and creative expression. We selected the Udall Foundation for their underwriting of a graduate assistantship to support students whose work relates to underrepresented populations and ethnic groups, the Udall collections, and the environment. In attendance to receive the award were Morris Udall's daughter, Anne Udall; Burr Udall, a trial lawyer and the brother of Morris and Stewart Udall; Stewart Udall's daughter, Laura Udall, a criminal defense and litigation lawyer; Udall Foundation executive director Phil Lemanski; and board chair Eric Eberhard.
To honor the Udall Foundation, Special Collections acquired the limited edition book Wildlife Crisis. It was written by Prince Philip, the Duke Edinburgh, and the noted British naturalist James Fisher, on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund. The epilogue to the book was written by Stewart Udall.
