Established through the generosity of long-time librarian Louise Greenfield and her husband, Simon Rosenblatt, the Naomi and Samuel Greenfield Endowed Scholarship honors the exceptional kindness Louise's parents demonstrated throughout their lives.

Three undergraduate student employees at the University Libraries each received $1000 scholarships based on how they exhibit kindness in the workplace. The award can be used to help pay for books and supplies related to their studies at the University of Arizona.

Application & selection process

We invited our student employees to submit a letter describing their work ethic and integrity, and how they've shown kindness and consideration to fellow library employees and patrons.

This year's selection committee:

Tiffany Calderon, Administrative Assistant, Administration
Cheryl Gerken, Course Content Initiatives Manager, Collection Services
Christine Hertzel, Electronic Resources Librarian, Collection Services

2024 winners

Jennifer Clancy, Access Information & Services

"As someone deeply committed to uplifting my community, I am proud to be part of an environment where compassion and support are not just abstract values, but actions we live by. Through my time working with the library staff, who come from diverse backgrounds and various stages of life, I’ve learned that being successful here isn’t just about completing tasks, but about building relationships, sharing wisdom, and fostering an environment where everyone can grow."

Isabella Coronado, Special Collections

"Working at a library has contributed to developing my work ethic because it is something I find worth showing up for. I genuinely care about doing the best I can and contributing to improving the library in any form, whether it be a small or a long-term project. This job has made me realize the value in working in an institution that is for the people, a resource for students, community members and researchers. It is the investment of knowledge and curiosity, that the world would be so bland without, for that I am immensely grateful."

Aidan Romo, Collection Services

"Work ethic is something I take seriously both on and off the clock, and my job has substantially contributed to the development of my consistency, patience, and integrity. The virtue I have developed the most is my integrity. A large portion of my work is done without direct supervision, and I am entrusted by my supervisors to do my job even when I am not being monitored. I always consider this at work, and actively do what is right regardless of who is watching."

Congratulations, Jennifer, Isabella, and Aidan, and thank you to our selection committee!
