Instructional support (new draft)

We are dedicated to helping students become inquisitive and critical researchers who can tackle research in any course. Our approach to information literacy allows us to teach students the "why" instead of only the "how," and it helps them think of themselves as creators and participants in scholarly communications. It also addresses competencies that students need to develop to become skillful researchers.

How we can partner

Collaborate with librarians in your discipline to:

Our librarians partner with instructors to design and refine research assignments, interactive activities, and learning objects that develop students' research skills. Whether you need a consultation or hands-on support creating these materials, we're here to partner on evidenced-based research instruction practices.

Contact the librarians in your discipline or complete the instructional request form to collaborate on the best ways to incorporate assignments into your course.

Our librarians offer in-person (or Zoom) class instruction where students get hands-on, customized instruction. Contact the librarians in your discipline or complete the instructional request form to discuss.

Special Collections can host in-person class instruction where interaction with physical primary sources and materials is critical to the course learning objectives.

Integrate interactive step-by-step tutorials to help students learn information literacy and navigate library databases and search tools.

You can embed library tutorials into your Brightspace course site and track completion. Contact the librarians in your discipline to get started.

We can also work with you to create a custom tutorial tailored to your course goals, research assignments, and learning outcomes.

Every Brightspace course site automatically includes a subject-specific library research guide linked in the "Library Guide" tab, connecting students to relevant research resources in the discipline.

We can also create custom course guides tailored to your course and discipline to help students understand the research process and complete assignments.

Collaborate with librarians and the CATalyst Studios team to embed experiential learning into your course through creative, hands-on activities. All academic programs and majors are invited to teach your class at CATalyst, visit bring your class to CATaylst to learn more.
