University Libraries launches OpenAthens project to improve access to online resources
Nov. 3, 2025

Over the next few years, the University Libraries will implement a new authentication system for users to access online resources, including library journals, ebooks, and databases.
This new system, OpenAthens, will eventually replace our EZProxy authentication system to stay current with best practices for secure and effective access to library materials.
We'll begin moving resources to OpenAthens in small batches every week starting Nov. 17.
Important things to know
- Users should be able to continue using the Libraries' resources with little or no disruption.
- EZProxy will continue to operate during this transition.
- All links that currently rely on proxy-based authentication should continue to work for the foreseeable future, but they will eventually become inactive.
As we work through this transition involving access to thousands of online resources, you may experience sporadic authentication problems or glitches.
