This workshop hosted in the AI+ Studio in the University Libraries will show you how to set up and run open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) directly on your own computer—giving you private, fast and flexible AI without relying on cloud services.
No prior knowledge or experience is required.
This workshop will cover:
- Brief history of LLMs
- Hardware considerations for running local LLMs
- How to install and run popular models (LLaMA, Phi, Gemma, Qwen, etc.) using Ollam or webUI
- How to select the right model size and quantization
- Privacy considerations for running models locally
Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops. Support will be given following the session for local installations or questions.
