About this collection

This collection contains ephemera from the University of Arizona from 1891-1985. This includes clippings of University events and issues, correspondence between University officials, pamphlets advertising student organizations and events, materials from University events such as dance cards and party favors and information on social functions as well as public memorandums on University issues. It focuses on student movements and student events throughout the first 100 years of the University's history with a focus on the daily lives of University students and personnel.

Historical background

The University of Arizona was founded in 1885. It was the first University in Arizona, founded even before the territory became a US state. The University initially consisted of the School of Agriculture in the Old Main building and expanded exponentially over the years to become one of the top 40 Universities in the United States. The University has long been a hub for Tucson movements and social events. This collection focuses on student life and how it evolved over the first hundred years of the University's existence including the daily life of students and personnel of the University.
