About this collection

Photocopies of typed transcriptions. Some are royal orders, 1784- 1786, directed to Bishop Antonio de los Reyes, concerning the custodial settlement of the missions and missionaries. The individual documents are noted as being copies and signed by the officials Miguel Ant. Cuevas at Alamos and Christoval Carvalan at Arizpe. Also includes some letters from Reyes to Viceroy Martías de Galvez about the urgent need to establish the Custodia of San Carlos. The final section has reports for Visitor General José de Gálvez.

Historical background

Spanish Franciscan; consecrated as the first Bishop of Sonora, Sinaloa, and the two Californias in 1782.
