This collection contains 100+ letters from Paul Edward Jones to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Jones, of Newberg, Oregon. The letters were written by Jones while he was in the Navy during World War II. The correspondence is arranged chronologically.

Historical background

Paul Edward Jones joined the Navy during World War II. His correspondence includes letters from the United States Naval Training Station in San Diego, the Receiving Station (PSNY) in Bremerton, Washington, the USN Radio Station at Port Blakely in Bainbridge Island, Washington, the Receiving Station (Battalion 12, Barracks 1231) in Shoemaker, California, and the Navy 3964 Fleet Post Office in San Francisco, California. Several of Jones' letters were written while he was on ships in Australia (Adelaide River), the Philippines (Tacloban, Leyte, Philippine Islands), and other locations on the coast.
