University Libraries honored for diversity work
The University Libraries was honored by the Society of Human Resource Management Greater Tucson (SHRM-GT) with the Diversity & Inclusion award at their annual Celebrating Innovation in the Workplace awards event on November 1. Each year, SHRM-GT celebrates and honors human resources professionals and organizations that exemplify innovation in community impact, diversity and inclusion, technology/process improvement, and leadership.
The UA Libraries, which founded the Diversity, Social Justice and Equity Council (DSJEC) in 2016, received the Diversity & Inclusion award recognizing several achievements over the last two years including: completing an inventory of UAL diversity strengths and opportunities; hosting workshops on implicit bias, inclusive leadership, communications, and being an effective ally; creating resources for campus; serving on campus diversity advisory committees; creating news forums; and celebrating the diversity of their staff. New members of the second cohort of the Diversity, Social Justice and Equity Council began serving a two-year term in the summer of 2018.
Current and former DSJEC members, Kenya Johnson, Rachel Martinez, Cheryl Neal, Shawna Thompson and Ryan Tombleson, attended the event along with library HR colleague, Glenda Hendrickson.
