About this collection

Photocopies of typed transcripts of documents relating to Antonio de los Reyes. The letters date from 1768 to 1769, when he first went to the Santos Reyes Mission at Cucurbe; several were sent from neighboring Tuape Mission. Of the 11 letters, all but one are addressed to the Governor Juan Claudio de Pineda; the other is to unnamed officials at the Querétaro College. One letter from Father Francisco Roche to the governor is also present. Later documents include a 1774 report, his 1776 plan regarding spiritual matters and organizational reforms at the Sonoran missions, and two commentaries by others on his unpopular plan.

The sources were compiled by Father Kieran McCarty, a priest and scholar associated with the Academy of American Franciscan History, Washington, D.C.
