About this collection

Ten groups of literary manuscripts, each cased separately by volume number. Some are unpublished; others are proofs of published works. Many are autographed, dated, and contain Symons' edits. Most are holographic, in either pen or pencil, with some typescript. Clippings and reprints of articles by him are also present. The inventory file contains photocopies of catalog cards describing each individual manuscript. Seven manuscripts contain original essays, plays, and poems by Symons: Aspects of Kent; Cesare Borgia; Cities and Sea-coasts and Islands; Odilon Redon, with essay on Renoir also included; Toulouse; Poems and Translations; and The Romantic Movement in English Poetry. The remaining three manuscripts are his translations, from French, of the writings of others: Letters of Guy de Maupassant to Gustave Flaubert; Translations from Verlaine, and Les Fleures du Mal by Charles Baudelaire. A few original wood engravings from the Chiswick Press are enclosed with the volume 3 material, including one by Aubrey Beardsley, one by Fred Hyland, and one by William T. Horton.
