Book spotlight: Poet Warrior
By Joy Harjo, the first Native American to serve as U.S. poet laureate
One of the many books in our Book That Matter Indigenous Peoples collection is this literary journey along the heartaches, losses, and humble realizations of Harjo's poet warrior road. A musical, kaleidoscopic meditation, "Warrior" reveals how Harjo came to write poetry of compassion and healing, poetry with the power to unearth the truth and demand justice.
About the author
Harjo was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is a member of the Mvskoke Nation. In addition to being an author, she has released four award-winning albums of original music and won a Native American Music Award (NAMMY) for Best Female Artist of the Year.
