Due to budget and staffing constraints, the Fine Arts Library (FAL) is permanently closed to walk-in access and will continue to serve as a closed stacks library.

The University Libraries, in collaboration with the College of Fine Arts and the Fred Fox School of Music are also developing plans over the next two years to move the FAL collection to the Weaver Library. By summer 2023, a Fine Arts Floor will be established on the Weaver Library’s fifth floor.

Expertise, services & resources continue

  • Users can continue to request books and other materials from the FAL collection for pickup through our express retrieval service.

  • Rachel Castro will continue to serve as the liaison librarian to the College of Fine Arts, providing consultation and expertise to help navigate access to information resources and services.

  • Our document delivery service will continue to provide email delivery of scanned print articles and book chapters from the FAL collection.

  • Software previously available on FAL computers is available on all computers at the Weaver and Main Libraries.

Planning & improvements

  • The planning process will bring together library holdings across the Fine Arts, including the collections currently housed in FAL, as well as Fine Arts materials already located in the Weaver Library.

  • Planned improvements for the Fine Arts Floor include new carpet and paint, improved furniture and aesthetics, adjacent reservable study rooms, and a new soundproof performance/listening room.

  • As FAL’s resources shift to Weaver Library, the College of Fine Arts will repurpose and renovate the FAL space to create new facilities to benefit College of Fine Arts students and faculty members.
