What do you do?

I work in the Document, Description, and Acquisitions department (DDA), as a co-lead of the interlibrary loan (ILL) department, where I supervise a crew of 7 student employees.

How long have you worked for University Libraries?

I have worked here for about 3 years now, but I have been with the UA for 11 years. Prior to working in the library, I worked for the UA Press as the warehouse and fulfillment manager, and after that, I worked for Procurement and Contracting Services (PACS) in the P-Card office. I am also a UA alumnus and a Tucson native. Bear Down!

What's your favorite library resource or service and why?

Well, I may be biased, but I have to say that interlibrary loan is my favorite service that we offer. If there is ever anything we do not own, we can get it for you from one of our partner institutions from all over the world! We also can scan book chapters and email them to you at no cost. Knowing that our ILL services assist the campus community in achieving their academic goals makes my job very rewarding.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I have been the lead vocalist in hardcore and metal bands since the 1990s. Currently, I am in Gat-Rot and Last Crime, and I was a member of Godhunter. Singing is very cathartic and allows me a channel to voice my discontent about what is happening in the world. Being involved in the hardcore scene exposed me not only to amazing music and interesting people, but it allowed me to connect to avenues of thought and political activism that I would not have otherwise been exposed to. Through hardcore I became politically active. It’s what encouraged me to get my B.S. in History and to become vegan. Music is a powerful medium, and it can really speak truth to power if used correctly.
