On April 1, University Libraries hosted the third annual Destination Imagination which celebrates quantitative reasoning (QR) and the joys of data.

Michelle Halla and Leslie Sult from Student Learning & Engagement collaborated with the Office of General Education and University Center for Assessment, Teaching, & Technology (UCATT) to design the student-focused imagination fair featuring drop-in stations where students could flex their quantitative reasoning skills.

Students came for free energy drinks, and stayed for fun challenges such as solving story problems and interpreting answers produced by Generative AI, measuring distance on a map, and making buttons or a personalized creative data visualization.

CATalyst Studios staff shared creative data visualization projects on their Instagram stories, showcasing data visualization projects using knitting, weaving, embroidery, and 3D printing.

Students shared ways they use QR skills every day at our talk-back board in the Main Library lobby and entered a contest to win jelly beans by guessing how many were in the bag.

This year had the highest student participation to date with over 130 engagements across all drop-in stations.

Thank you

Special thanks to library colleagues Rachel Castro, Heather Froehlich, Michelle Halla, Mona Nakamura, Shelley Peper, Garrett Smith, Robin Vickery, and student employee Belen Urreiztieta for helping ensure this year’s event was a success.
