Librarian Carol Howe receives the 2018 Lois Olsrud Faculty Excellence Award
The 2018 Lois Olsrud Faculty Excellence Award was awarded to Librarian Carol Howe. This award, named for a librarian who worked at the Libraries from 1966 to 1996, recognizes sustained excellence in service to and/or collaboration with faculty, students, and/or researchers.
Associate Librarians Maribeth Slebodnik and Ahlam Saleh worked with College of Medicine (COM) and Health Sciences Library colleagues to nominate Carol. Her nominators described her work on behalf of the COM as “elevating the Health Sciences Library’s relationship with the COM to new levels of excellence.” Carol holds joint appointments with the COM and the Department of Family & Community Medicine. She lends her expertise in literature searching and project management for systematic reviews. She also collaborates with COM faculty in publishing extensively, which includes systematic, scoping and mini-reviews.
Carol served on the COM Admissions Committee 2012-2018 and served as committee chair in 2018. Carol has “earned the respect of her fellow faculty committee members by addressing challenging applicant issues with compassion and understanding," said one of the committee members. "She would advocate for all applicants with fairness and equity and was a role model to the committee.”
A library colleague described Carol as an “exceptional faculty member evidenced by her recent promotion, mentoring of new faculty, and departmental contributions.”
Congratulations Carol!
