To celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Special Collections employees created its 4th annual ofrenda (altar) to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed. The holiday was celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2.

For this year's display, our student employees hand-made hundreds of paper cempasúchitl (marigold) flowers which were used to create a beautiful back drop and bedding for the ofrenda. The display also included a "broadside" (single sheet of paper that is printed only on one side) by Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe Posada, and a curated playlist of songs.

Much appreciation to this year's altar committee including Patricia Ballesteros, Michelle Boyer, Maggie Dwenger, Amanda Howard, Alba Fernandez-Keys, and Irisbeltsi Enriquez-Gutierrez.

Special thanks to our student employees Will Diaz, Hannah Fackrell, Atreylen Freeman, Dayanara Guadalupe Castro, Ash Maxwell, Zach Reynolds, Tre-Devon Rhodes, Amelia Mae Sommerhauser, Logan Stetson, Gina Tome Moeller, and preservation student employee, Brittany Murphy, who created the custom exhibit mount to showcase both sides of the posada poster.
