When

1 – 3 p.m., Oct. 20, 2012

Where

The Tucson community is invited to submit original home movies in 8mm, Super 8mm and 16mm for inspection and consideration for screening (depending on condition) on Home Movie Day to a community audience. All home movies are welcome, and home movies filmed in Southern Arizona and the US/Mexico Borderlands are especially invited.

Tucson’s Home Movie Day features rarely-seen campus footage filmed in the 1930s by A.E. Douglass – known as the “Father of Dendrochronology” and the UA’s first world-renowned scientist and “Who Needs You,” a short film by Ken Wolfgang featuring local children determined to build a clubhouse in downtown Tucson. Consultations about how best to preserve home movies and their role in local history are also provided.

An international program observed by more than 50 cities and 13 countries worldwide, the tenth annual Home Movie Day is a celebration of amateur films and film-making, home movies, and film preservation. Film archivists established the event to highlight the cultural significance of home movies and the need to properly preserve them as artifacts of culture.
