Harnessing Time: Calendars from Antiquity to the Medieval Book of Hours

Professor Cynthia White will discuss the history of calendars from antiquity through the beautifully illustrated medieval Books of Hours. Special Collections houses several facsimiles of these popular devotional books, including the hours of Jeanne d’Evreux and John, Duke of Berry. These books were usually commissioned as personal prayer books of the late Middle Ages, and their imagery and design are dazzling.
